Beef Balls Koay Teow Soup

Koay teow as what commonly known in Asia countries is actually flat rice noodle. Usually fry or cook in soup, they are a favorite alternative staple food beside white rice and noodle.

Obviously for health reason, we prefer to have it in soup. Instead of the usual fish balls, we decided to try it with beef balls and we were not disappointed. As for the soup, we added miso paste into anchovy broth.

Grilled Peri Peri Chicken

These drumsticks were seasoned with freshly blend red chillies, vinegar, olive oil and a pinch of salt overnight. Grilled with potatoes and served with salad.

What a mouth watering and peri peri hot dinner.

Blanched Romaine Lettuce

Blanching is one of my favorite way to cook green leafy vegetables. Its a simple and yet healthy cooking method. Also known as "yau mak" in cantonese, romaine lettuce is also suitable to be eaten raw as salad.

It is an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber and other minerals. Best of all, its so crunchy.

Stewed Chicken In Barbecue Sauce

Instead of grilling or roasting, for the first time we decided to stew this whole chicken leg which were seasoned with barbecue sauce.

Stewing is indeed a more healthier cooking method and it certainly goes hand-in-hand with that healthy miso soup for our dinner today.

Miso Soup

We drink miso soup at least two to three times a week. Its delicious and full of goodness as the Japanese saying "A Bowl Of Miso Soup A Day Keeps The Doctor Away". For us, we just simply love the taste.

We uses either anchovies or chicken broth as the soup base and we usually add tofu, wakame (dried seaweed), enoki mushroom and spring onions.

Another healthy soup for dinner.

Chocolate Coffee Fudge Cake

My wife stumbled upon another fabulous cake recipe which doesn't require creaming of butter. Just like us, its a "must try" recipe for those who loves the mild bitterness of dark chocolate and the strong aroma of black coffee.

We made some adjustments to the original recipe and added one key ingredient to ensure that the cake turns out moist and not too firm or dry which normally would for those recipe with cocoa powder. We did add a tablespoon of butter into the coffee fudge for that glossy look.

Baked by our chef Mr H yesterday.

Watercress Soup

Do you know that for gram to gram, watercress actually provides more iron than spinach? Popular among the Chinese, watercress soup is also known to have detoxification effect for lungs.

Pork ribs, red dates and goji berries were added for flavor and color. This soup goes very well with a bowl of plain rice for a simple yet healthy dinner.

Chocolate Banana Cake

After two weeks of "food deprivation" I couldn't wait any longer to satisfy my cravings and at the same time what could be a better way to show my appreciation to my beloved wife who especially took good care of me when I was sick.

An irresistible Chocolate Banana cake from Secret Recipe was all I had in mind and I bet she would be so delighted by this one.

So happen to be in town for my boss farewell dinner, I actually excused myself a bit earlier than the others so I could drop by at my favorite cake shop on my way home before they close for the day.

With a cup of French press Brazilian coffee, it was certainly a perfect supper for two of us.

What Happened?

My health was in a bad shape for the past two weeks. I had everything right in a package which I believe is very common in hot and humid tropical countries like Malaysia and Singapore. Started with a simple sore throat and soon followed by fever and flu, I am still couping with that persistent cough.

I began to realise that somehow whenever I skipped my "trusted" green tea for a period of one to two weeks, my body immune system will start to go low and I will fall sick very easily. It has happened to me a couple of times before and I am pretty sure all these were more than just coincidence.

Anyway the good news is, I am almost fully recovered by now but the bad news is, my wife is starting to feel that all too familiar itch at her throat. I could have accidentally spread the virus to her so right now, extra doses of vitamin C are her only reliable defence.

For the record, I am thankful to the Malaysian Government for providing a very generous subsidy on health care to all the citizens. Every citizens are entitled to consult a medical doctor and get to bring home dozens of genuine medicines all for a mere 1 Ringgit Malaysia which is equivalent to about 0.30 USD. Excellent!

Besides that awful taste of the medicines, I have to survive strictly on comfort food so most of my daily meals were nothing more than just plain rice with one simple soup. So no fancy food for me and therefore no photo for the blog.

To all my visitors who frequented this blog, I would like to Thank You for visiting my blog and I hope that you would continue to check back on my blog regularly. We will be right back with more photos of great looking food as soon as we start to get busy in our kitchen again.

French Style Orange Yogurt Cake

For many, Sunday is a day to relax. As for me and my wife, Sunday is a good day to try out new recipe. We found this healthy and yet interesting recipe from a website just few days ago and decided to give a try. Instead of butter, this recipe uses lots of yogurt and vegetable oil.

Another product baked by our chef Mr H.

Pizza Bread

First of all, we have to say that neither we nor our chef Mr H made this one. We actually bought it from a bakery shop when we saw a few others with each holding one of this queuing up to pay. Well they were certainly right about it. Not only does this pizza bread looks good. It taste good too.

When we reached home, we could not resist the temptation to sink our teeth into it and so we get Mr H to heat it up for us. Sinfully enough we had it for supper with a cup of hot black cherry tea.

Sencha Japanese Green Tea

Japanese green tea is definitely one of my favorite drink. I really love Gyokuro green tea (which I used to drink while I was in Singapore) but due to the price tag, nowadays I have to settled for Sencha grade instead.

Which ever grade they are, green tea is a great source of anti-oxidant and a cup a day will certainly go far in keeping cancer at bay.

Grilled Stingray With Sambal Paste

In my opinion, grill is by far the best method to cook a stingray. A hit among Malaysian people, mid size stingrays are grill with spicy hot paste (commonly known as sambal) on a banana leaf.

Unfortunately for us, we couldn't find a banana leaf so I wrapped it with aluminium foil instead but definitely I'll be well prepared next time.

Thanks to Mr H.
